Santa Barbara Sea Glass & Ocean Arts Festival | Logo Redesign

The Carpinteria Sea Glass Festival was so successful that they had to move to a larger venue in Santa Barbara. With the change of venue came a change in name and a complete rebranding. The Santa Barbara Sea Glass & Ocean Arts Festival is an annual event promoting and hosting ocean themed and sea glass artists from all over the country. This festival is the only one of its kind in Southern California, and one of three on the west coast. They wanted a classy, creative logo to represent the renowned coastal jewel of Santa Barbara, California whilst appealing to their audience of artists and sea glass lovers. The new branding and marketing helped them take their festival to the next level.

Phase 1: Design Exploration

Our design concepts explored illustrating colorful sea glass and arranging them to create ocean art for the symbol. A simplified and more complex version of the sun setting on the ocean and a wave in the ocean.

The wave ended up being the winner. We refined the illustration and enclosed it in a circle of more sea glass using the most coveted colors in the sea glass world. The direction of the wave forms the letter C – a subtle nod to the original festival in Carpinteria.
