“Legends” Walden Surfboard Design

“Legends” was a custom surfboard graphic created for Walden Surfboards’ 2014 Luau & Legends of Surfing Invitational board donation, benefiting cancer research.

I built the design from 81 photographs of legendary surfers, carefully arranging the images by color and tone so that, from a distance, they come together to form the shape of an ocean wave. Up close, the individual portraits reveal the history and personalities behind the sport; from farther away, they become a single graphic composition.

The finished board combined photographic collage, surf culture, and custom graphic design in a one-of-a-kind piece that ultimately raised $9,500 for cancer research.
