The Seaside Debates: A Critique of the New Urbanism examines the ideas, successes, and criticisms surrounding New Urbanism through presentations and commentary from prominent architects, planners, and scholars. Edited by Todd W. Bressi and published by Rizzoli New York, the 160-page book grew out of discussions held at the Seaside Institute in Seaside, Florida.

I designed the cover and interior editorial system to organize a particularly rich mix of essays, architectural drawings, plans, maps, photographs, and illustrations. The challenge was to give a large amount of visual and written material a consistent structure while allowing the diverse projects and viewpoints to remain distinct.

The restrained typography, generous white space, and flexible grid create continuity throughout the book, while the architectural imagery becomes an integral part of the page composition. The result is an architecture book design that makes complex ideas about urban planning and community development accessible, visually engaging, and easy to navigate.
