The Ted Spagna Project | Website Design
The Ted Spagna Project was created to preserve and reintroduce the work of pioneering sleep photographer Ted Spagna, whose time-lapse portraits documented sleeping people and animals from 1975–1989. His photographs occupy a rare intersection of art and science, offering both striking visual studies and valuable observations of natural sleep behavior.
As co-founder and creative director of the project, I designed a custom Squarespace website to bring this extensive photographic archive together in one visual, accessible place. The site showcases Spagna’s photography while providing context around his life, exhibitions, scientific significance, and “Sleep” by Ted Spagna (published by Rizzoli New York), which I also designed and co-edited.
Because the photography is the heart of the project, the website design stays deliberately restrained—using clean typography, generous space, and intuitive navigation to let the images lead. The result is a digital archive that preserves an important body of work while making it accessible to new audiences in art, photography, sleep research, and visual culture.
