WORK: LOGOS / IDENTITIES
Vegan Studies UC Santa Barbara | Logo Design
Vegan Studies at UC Santa Barbara was developed by Professor Renan Larue as an interdisciplinary exploration of veganism and its relationship to animals, people, culture, philosophy, and the environment. The curriculum has included Vegan Literature: Food, Literature, Philosophy, a Comparative Literature course examining veganism through academic and cultural perspectives.
I designed the Vegan Studies UCSB logo to communicate the interconnected subjects at the heart of the program rather than relying on a conventional vegan leaf or food symbol. The final mark brings together silhouettes representing a human figure, an animal, and plant life, with radiating bands of blue, orange, and green connecting the three areas within a single visual system.
The imagery reflects the broader academic questions explored through vegan studies: how human choices affect animals, environmental systems, ethics, food culture, and society. The radiating structure gives the logo movement while visually reinforcing the idea that these subjects are interconnected rather than separate.
The result is a colorful, contemporary academic identity that gives an interdisciplinary field of study a recognizable visual presence while communicating its focus on people, animals, and the environment.
