William F. Ryan Center | Healthcare Icon Design

The William F. Ryan Center provides affordable healthcare to medically underserved communities in New York City. The organization needed a set of custom icons that could help patients quickly identify different departments while making its communications feel more welcoming and approachable.

I designed a family of seven colorful healthcare icons representing Dental, Geriatrics, Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Nutrition, and Mental Health. Each symbol uses the same simplified line style and friendly visual personality, creating a consistent system while giving every department its own recognizable image.

The illustrations use familiar visual cues—a smiling tooth, stethoscope, infant, flower, apple, and other simplified symbols—to make the information easy to understand without feeling overly clinical. Bright individual colors further differentiate the services while helping the complete set work together as one cohesive visual language.

The result is an approachable healthcare icon system that supports patient communication, wayfinding, and branded materials while reinforcing the Ryan Center’s community-focused approach to care.
